I have had 2004 Prius for, accordingly, 6 years (~140k miles). 45MPG average, original breakes, etc. In fact, not a single problem (tfu tfu tfu) so far - was changing only oil/tires and a few bulbs. GREAT value. It is also fun to drive (with VSControl). 2010 model is even better. If rumors about car-pool stickers eligibility(as a plug-in car incentive) for it will prove true - my kid will inherit the 2004 one.
Mazda2 is cute and smart, but test drive Prius if you have not...
