If driving with the winning smile on a budget is a main factor - Nissan/Infinity are hard to beat. They usually get it just right (more smiles per $ than Toyota or Honda, may be(only may be) even than Mazda ,IMHO).
I did not try a small Nissan for a while, just wondering...
